Cheap soft panniers 6.99 argos?

these rucksacks are 18litre in size and are only 6.99 each in argos
a pair would make real cheap throw overs for a biker on a budget ( me for one!)

commen and light throw over panniers in Germany

Hi there,

it's a unbeatable cheap option you found there and match up with my own experiences too, just using a light rucksack rather than panier's.

now it may sounds odd... but here in Germany there is a sort of uniformed sight on the roads.... almost any bicycle rider you see is using this PVC-Nylon-reinforced light weight waterproof panniers from this German manufacturer "ORTLIEB" Ortlieb Outdoor Equipment

well as I say it's rather odd..... but this special "bike-panniers" are well made and really practical in the term of just sling this things over any bike with out the need of a stiff and bulky frame.
Some time I'm using this panniers but rather like a WEB-TEX rucksack strapped to the back of my bike for my trips.

Anyway.... here are some pic's...
the panniers cost 144-Euro and have a space of 42L.
the top pack roll "size-L" is 72-Euro and gives space for some 49L. but this one is a bit to big, the smaller 35L. "size-M" one is by far better, well slightly cheaper as well for 36-Euro

one more link where to mail order this from is KTM-Sommer:
SOMMER KTM - ZUBEHÖR
but I suggest to order the bags straight from ORTLIB..... if fancy this option for any reason....

Hows about these then?
Buy Raleigh Triple Pannier. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Saddles and luggage carriers.
For just £20 what more could you ask for !

At those prices Malc, you could have new panniers every trip!
the only thing that confuses me is they state capacity 28 litres! sureley they mean that is each? PLUS the 'Top Bag' arrangement?

I live in Spain so cant go and check it out :(

but if someone wants to play :detective: and go along to Argos and give us guys a report...... that would be cool!

Dunno about the capacity but the problem with that style of pannier is the gap between them is fixed and the width of a bicycle rack. You might be better with seperates. Matt

I've just caught up with this topic and there is some discussion about the same issue here:-

I've no doubt that there is a lot of scope with cycling kit to save money for motorbiking!!

I've used the cycle panniers sold by Decathlon that seem to be very similar in specification to the Argos stuff; they probably all come from the same factory in China anyway! The decathlon stuff was rugged and worked well for riding for a few days (they were borrowed, so I don't know how they perform in the longer term).

I use an Ortleib waterproof duffle bag strapped on the back of the bike and it does everything well.
I have been thinking of hanging the cycling stuff over the fuel tank to spread the load a bit and as cheap extra load carrying capacity.
