Best Jacket To Ride RTW
 

Hi,
I am new to the forum and have really learned from the many posts. My wife and I are planning to cross Asia in about 2 years time and are in the process of looking for jackets.

We narrowed it down to the Rev'it's Cayenne Pro or Motorport's Ultra II Kevlar Jacket? Would anyone have any opinons on these jackets so that we can make a final decision? Thanks in advance. :helpsmilie:

Welcome to the site TinTin, I'm not familiar with the jackets you've mentioned but I have some general advice.

The temperature range will be from sub-zero to over 40c/110f so you need a jacket with a good removable thermal lining and plenty of opening vents to let the air through in high temps. It goes without saying that it should have a gore-tex lining so it's 100% waterproof. These are the obvious things but things like how usefull the pockets are and their waterproofness will matter as you're going to be wearing it every day. Having the matching trousers is usefull as they'll zip together . Make sure that you can close the cuffs with thick winter/waterproof gloves on, take them with you or use some in the shop when trying it on. When picking a colour think what it'll look like after 6 months on the road!

However, Ted Simon rode most of his RTW wearing a sheepskin flying jacket, even when it was hot. I tend to do most of my summer touring wearing a pair of Hood jeans which have a Aramid fibre (Kevlar) lining and they're a good compromise between comfort and protection. and a gore-tex lined Cordura jacket. I don't bother with the lining as I use a fleece jacket, when needed, and I can wear it off the bike too. The big problem is having enough room to store all of your wet/warm gear when you're not wearing it.

Good luck. It's still a bit of a lottery when you pay your money as to whether it will be just right.

... you might want to check the German motorcycle stuff online store Louis. As I mentioned several times already, most of my stuff comes from there (just can't get it over here in Japan or if, then it is too darned expensive). The quality as well as the price are ok (sometimes even more than that). My other riding clothes is a Draggin jeans, ordered from Australia. GREAT stuff!! Just check the internet again!! Besides all this I also got my buffalo leather jeans and jacket, just too hot in summer time, when it hits more than 25 degrees C.
