Acer one

I was considering buying the Asus but have found a laptop from Acer which is also quite small, almost bike friendly. Has anyone got any experience of the Acer one? Currys are doing it for £199 until Wednesday. I almost bought a very small laptop from Maplin's for £169 but I saw the Acer in Currys on the way to Maplin.
The Acer has an 8GB flash and an 8.9" screen. It's linux operated and has wifi so should be OK for a bit of email and surfing on the move.

acer one

Have one and love it, taking mine from Oz to UK and then down West Africa and then back to Europe starting next month, wooohhhooooooooooo. Will write the odd report about it's performance. WiFi works really well. Check out Acer Aspire One User Forum • Index page a huge wealth of knowledge about them.

Cheers
Wilky

I am thinking of one, but am trying to find the price for a 6-cell battery to replace the 3-cell it comes with.

how long do you find the standard battery lasts?

cheers,

Look at Buy Acer Aspire One Battery - White*LC.BTP00.018 from CCL - Online Retailer of the Year 2007 & 2006 for laptops, desktops and computer hardware thast might be what you're looking for.

cheers. though that brings the price up quite a bit, and I believe the battery sticks out and obviously weighs more.

Having said that, there's so many models coming out (it's a new sector) that it's quite easy to buy none while you wait for the last 0.2 MHz speed improvement...

3 hours may well be enough..

If you got a car charger for it so you could charge it on the move in the car/bike that might be better.

You're right about waiting or not waiting. I was on my way to buy a 7" laptop from Maplin when I saw Currys doing the Acer for £199 and now can't make up my mind. The Currys deal ends tomorrow though so I best decide soon or I'll be waiting for the next micro marvel to be anounced.:)

PC World also have it at £200, with no apparent deadline. Maybe there's a 6-cell version coming out soon...

I just bought one. PC World £200. Up and running in about 2 minutes... If you're in Edinburgh (or Fife?) happy to meet up and you can have a decent play with the device.

cheers,

Thanks for the offer Dougie. I've just bought one, found a wifi connection from somewhere and I'm posting this from the Acer :)

I've never found a computer so easy to set up before :)

Now all I need to do is get out on the bike and try some free wifi places.
