12volt compressor

Any recommendation for 12volt tyre pumps? Or is it better to carry a footpump?

Bicycle hand pump.

Light, cheap, fast reliable.

And a few CO2 cartridges with adapter when you're in a hurry o rinstalling a tubeless tire. Progressive makes extra big CO2 cartridges now, will blow up a sport bike tubeless tire, so great for us.

You can make a very compact compressor by buying a 12V unit, throwing away the housing and doing some minor mods. See what I did, on my website. I have 2, one in each bike.

In the UK you can buy the Draper 12V compressors for a tenner brand new (I bought mine from AB Butts in Leicester). The box looks massive, but the compressor itself is quite small. I've stripped it down and it should fit into a nice small aluminium case I bought from Maplins for about £3/£4. The dimensions are 140mm x 90mm x 50mm - the only problem is that I'd like to make the pressure hose a bit smaller as it's about 300 mm long at the moment. However I need some pretty serious crimping gear to move the valve adaptor down - any ideas anyone?

Wish I'd read this thread before buying my Porsche compressor. It's tiny and does a great job, including blowing out the bead on new Contis on my 1150GS. But I'm ashamed to tell you what it cost!

Touratech are also bringing one out any day - it's in their new 2003 catalogue but I haven't seen one yet.

Re: Shoretning the air tube. Just in case anyone else is thinking about doing this - I've been told that a jubilee clip should secure the valve adaptor OK for bike tyre pressures, as long as the valve adaptor has some 'barbs' on it for the tube to seat properly. Hard to explain - if I do it I'll post a picture and report.
