website - non laptop
 

Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to do a website of my trip, without bringing a laptop. I'm going to be on a 250cc Ducati, and even with updated electronics, it's still a 1960s Italian bike. Laptops don't like to be trickle-charged.

I'm thinking of bringing a PDA, with a solar recharger and a roll-up keyboard. And a digital camera. I don't need 3 meg pictures, just something decent. The pictures will be on a site anyway. A friend just brought this up on slashdot (a computer geek site for you non computer geeks) but the answers haven't been that great. Has anyone else done a blog without using a laptop?

We have dozens of people who do blogs on HU without a laptop!

We don't generally recommend carying a laptop at all for travel by motorcycle - you have to be very serious about NEEDING it for whatever reason to make it worthwhile. Cost, fragility, theft risk, space etc.

It's easy enough to either make paper notes or as you have already thought of, on a pda, and then type it all in at an internet cafe or transfer it if possible, though often they won't let you connect anything. There ARE lots of internet cafes - more than you'll ever need - and their equipment is usually pretty good. (Most of them are NEW in the last few years, so the computers are reasonably recent, if well used by now - the only real problem is they often put 10 computers on one modem with a lousy connection, so it can take a while to get mail etc.)

There are a number of discussions in the Photo Forum on the best way to deal with pictures, internet cafes and storage, so I won't get into that here.

I know that you have a blog section, which is great, but I figured since I already have my own site, I can put it there and not take up your space & bandwidth.

I don't need a laptop, and I'll want the space for something else. A pen & paper was thought of, but being a computer geek and all, I was trying to figure out the geek way of doing it.

I haven't checked out the photo section yet, so thanks for pointing me that way.
