Type of Cell Phone Service in Costa Rica
 

Howdy,
I am going to Costa Rica to do a 7 day tour on a rental Moto. I would like to carry a Cell phone for calling in the City. Does any one know what cell phone system is in use in Costa Rica? GSM like in Europe? Or is it the cellular system like in the USA?

Why not leave the phone at home? Just think - 7 whole days without it! Sounds good doesnt it?

When I was in C.R. last year my Samsung x495 tri-band phone worked. BUT, I don't know which frequency band it was using.

Note: I lost my previous T-Mobile phone (while motorcycle riding, incidently) and went to Wal-Mart, bought this x495 phone (above) as a pre-paid phone, threw out the pre-paid SIM card that came with it and installed the regular card that comes with it. This may be a way you can get a new phone if needed. They carry Cingular, T-mobile, and all the major brands as pre-paid phones.
