THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO


There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobiles is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

THIRD Hidden BatteryPower

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your hone: * # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Sounds great and I must try the remote phone unlocking whenever I have a vehicle with two sets of keys!

I tried the last two and the serial number code did work. I'll write it down as soon as I can find a pen.

No 3, the batterypower trick didn't seem to do much. The phone I used had only one bar of battery level left but nothing happened, it just sat there. Perhaps when it's really flat ...

I work in the mobile industry but never knew about the 112 number which can be dialled even when your keypad is locked. You learn something new every day :thumbup1:

The 15 digit number is the IMEI number which all of the UK networks keep details of. If your phone is stolen then your network should automatically place an IMEI bar on your phone at the same time as blocking your sim. It doesnt solve your problem of having no phone but definitely takes the sting out of it knowing that it is useless to the thieving scumbag that took it.

You can still try it out, just hang up as soon as the connection is being established. No harm done, it just confirms that your phone will do it.

2. Remote key opening uses radiosignals or infrared, how can you transmit this over a phone via a microphone and speaker!!???

3. Why would a mobile manufacturer, design a mobile that only uses half of the battery capacity and the second half can only be accessed by "secret codes" !!?? Bull

1. The 112 thing is not a trick, its widely announced by authorities and mobile manufacturers.
If you "just try" it, the call will be traced, at least in this country, all calls are traced, so you can find the caller even if he faints before he can give an address. And also to be able to find people who are spamming the 112 and thus blocking real calls.

Well you can try the 112 thing to see, just don't push the call button after you've typed in 112. It doesn't work on mine though I push the first digit and a number comes up telling me my phone is locked. Note that some say the 112 number will give you a choice of language, in France if you dial it you just get a French person who speaks only French.

And on the subject of remote car unlocking. If you put the key in your ear, nose or mouth you can unlock your car from a lot further away, just don't ring me when they come to take you away.

I'm not sure about the battery thing because mine is full but I'll try it next time

The car remote key is a possibility I believe because digital phones transfer sound waves to digital bits and bytes and then reverse them back into soundwaves, don't see why this wouldn't work for radiowaves too.

The anti-theft thing is very old, I remember doing it in the mid 90s on an old Ericsson

Maybe because phones don't receive or transmit radio waves of the same frequency as car remotes? I call bull on this one as well.

Pity though, because if it did I'd record whatever the signal was, and then use my mobile to open the doors, something I've always fancied.
