Mobile (Cell) Phone mount

Can anyone recommend anything to mount my phone to my v-strom, it must be waterproof. at the moment it does in top of my tankbag but because i use the sat nav / GPS software on the phone quite alot and would now like to fit a mount. Any help would be greatly received. I don't like spending too many £'s so the cheaper the better.

Which phone is it? Do you need to touch the phone while you're riding? Do you need to plug anything in to it (headset, charger)?

I made a waterproof case for mine, with the charger leade built in, but I don't need to touch the phone at all, so the lid screws down. You might have different requirements.

Its a Nokia N85 and i would like to be able to plug the charger in, which a already have a socket for. I'd also have to be able to plug the headset into it. i'd like it mounted so that i could look at the screen every so often but i wouldn't need to have to operate it whilst riding.

I was looking for something for my iPhone recently and the best solution I could find was the medium one of these. I e-mailed Dave Lomax there and he responded promptly as to which size I would need, very helpful.

RAM Mount Aquaboxes - waterproof motorcycle iPod Smartphone iPhone PDA MP3 player mount - RAM Mounts - Aquaboxes - adventure-spec.com: Off-Road Adventure Motorcycling gear,UK,enduro, rally, rallye, touring, rtw,mx

I haven't committed to one yet but probably will as there's nothing cheaper that's waterproof and allows the touch screen to be used.

I haven't used it, but there is also the DAHON BioLogic Bike Mount for iPhone.
It is geared for bicycle use, not motorcycle. So, it may need some modifications. Here is an article about such modifications. Dave Mac’s Blog
Also, it seems to be water resistant, not water proof.
Send us a quick report on the performance of whatever you get.

Givi do a satnav bag that attaches to the handlebars, I've seen these and they look a quality piece of kit.

No idea if they are any good for the phones though, although you can (I understand) still use touch screens inside the bag.

I also saw a cheap version on one of the web-based m'cycle suppliers - Busters, Offroadbikestore, thefastone etc, just can't remember which one ! Lorra use that eh?

If you can wait a few days, i'll post a mini review on the product.

My Aquabox arrived yestaday and is now fitted on my Varadero.
I've had no problems with the company, great communication and the Aquabox was DHL'd on Friday, arriving Monday.

After checking out the company web site, I've discovered these guys are bikers, and have travelled all around the world. The stuff they sell are products that they have tested out and I beleive they are going to be at the Ripley meeting this year.

The Aquabox is made by RAM and is of the same quality and design like their other products. I purchased the Aquabox medium size which is ideal for my iPhone that also has a otterbox defender case. There is still also room to fit the charger and you can push out a panel at the back of the box to allow the charger cable into the Aquabox.
The front transparant cover is made of a flexible rubber compound which works great with anything that has buttons. It will NOT work with the iPhone touchscreen (which I already knew from the product documentation) but then the iPhone touchscreen does not work with bike gloves on anyway.

But here's my plan... The new iOS4 software update for the iPhone coming out this month and allows the voice control feature through bluetooth. This means that if you have a bluetooth helmet like the Viper RS, all you have to do is push the home button on the iPhone (which is a proper button, not touchscreen) to activate the voice control and then just speak something like "Play songs by the killers" through the helmet mic.

I've tried to find a negative about this product and the only thing I can think of is that the Aquabox has an option for you to use a small padlock to stop a thief from opening your Aquabox and stealing your iPhone but there would be nothing to stop them from just loosening the RAM mount arm and taking both your iPhone and Aquabox!

Take off the big black thumbscrew-type nut from the RAM mount, and replace with a Nylock nut and repair washer - Sure, it's not going to stop a determined thief, but it will stop the opportunist.

Simply solutions are often the best

That will probally do the job... it's only to stop someone running off with it when I go and pay for fuel and stuff

Simple ones, yes I like simple ones!

You might need to change the bolt too, just a normal M8 SS bolts does it.

(doesn't need to be SS, just stops it getting rusty !)

That is the exact same product I mentioned in my June 10 post.
Can I assume from your overwhelming recommendation that you have used it yourself?
I have heard that the clasp is not the greatest (i.e. it can pop open and throw your $500 phone onto the pavement). So, you may want to consider investing in the extra protection of a thick rubber band if you use this...
