Iridium sim question

Hello, I just bought an "old but new" sat phone (Kyocera sd-66k).
I will use it in august, but I would try it as soon as I receive it, in the next few days.
Is there any cheap solution to try it?
I mean: the cheapest solution seems to be to buy a prepaid sim, but it costs at least 130 euro and after only 1 month it expires, as to say in may...
130 euro for 5 minutes seems too much.
Is there any better solution?
Thank you!

I looked into this as I have a sat hone Kyoceraa ss 66k like you

You can buy a prepaid which will last from say 3 months that you activate it. So as such you could carry the phone and the sim card and at the point that you use the sim card you have 3 months to use up your credit. This is in theory good in an emergency, but when i looked into it, you had to activate your prepaid sim within 1 year of purchase

I just pay a monthly charge of 14 pounds and callas are about 70pence per minute.

Thanks

Ashley

Thank you Ashley! I think I solved in a cheap way: as the phone seems to be ok, I'll wait to buy the prepaid sim in july with an extension of 1 month. At the moment I have only one trip planned in areas where the sat phone is needed, so I don't need more durable solution.
Thank you very much again!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
