Internet Access at major Truckstops/US

I almost hate to mention this, since the facilities are usually very slow, and the equipment not real reliable, but.....
Many of the Major Truck Stop Chains in the US, (Petro, Pilot, TA) have credit card, or paper currency accepting internet booths.
Usually, the rates are about 20 to 25 cents per minute. The connection rates are pretty slow, and often the keyboard is gummed up, or has at least one stuck key!
If you use one of the Kiosk types, don't feed in too much currency, until you can determine the beast is working OK. There usually isn't any means for refunds!

A few truckstops have actual internet cafe type setups. The Petro in Bordentown, NJ has a computer room with access rates of $6 an hour. (the last time I stopped there....2 years or so ago)

The truckstop setups are far from ideal, but may come in handy in an emergency.

Even better, at Flying J, there are usually tables, plugs, and telephone jacks from which you can make a free local or 1-800 call. All you need is an RS-232 cord, ISP,and you're in business!

Most of the larger truckstops have phones at the tables in the restaurant.....some with separate ports to plug your laptop into.
Works OK if you have an 800 number for acess to your ISP, which usually entails a per minute fee, which is higher than using a cheap phone card to connect to the internet.
I gave up on carrying my laptop on the road, unless I know I'm on a trip I'll be stuck in a motel for a couple of days.
