GPS Monitoring

:helpsmilie::helpsmilie:Forgive me if this has been posted before but I have NO IDEA what I'm talking about!

Does anyone know if it possible for my missus to log onto a website, put in a reference number and see a dot showing my location on a world map??

I know, if it is possible, it's going to be bl:censored:dy expensive but it will give her peace of mind I hope.

Any help appreciated

Rich

IriTrack

I assume you are refering to the IriTrack system, which most of the rallies now use. For an overland trip it seems a bit excessive.

Handheld GPS monitoring

Rich...

This might be helpful. International . They offer a handheld send-only unit for purchase at $169 US and a subscription for use at $99/year. Pretty much world-wide coverage. You can set it to either constantly monitor (I think that is a bit extra) or set it to send a location only when you push a button. When they receive a location, the company will send a hyperlink to anywhere (or to whomever) you like for a Google map display of where you are. They also have an insurance policy and a 911 function. I don't have one but am thinking about getting one as my kid is interested in knowing where I might be on an upcoming RTW. I agree that I don't like the big brother aspect, but it's not too intrusive if I only need to hold it out and push the button once or twice a day. Looks interesting.

I understand that GOOGLE EARTH can be used for this purpose. Simply put in the co-ordinates and the location is highlighted.

A couple of Brit riders (Milky & Dave)in the 'Heroes Legends' Dakar used something simular, they can be contacted via 'The Riders Digest' magazine Editor; editor@theridersdigest.co.uk 020 8677 4701, editorial mobile 07940 839721

If you take a mobile phone & GPS with you, you could use POI66

I used it on my trip like so: France to Goa-2007
