communications - VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)

I am sure some people know about this already, but it would be great to hear some feedback and any problems.

VoIP is voice communications using internet connections rather than telephone companies, users can communicate computer to computer for free or computer to normal phone for about 0.017Eros per minute to most parts of the world.

The most popular system is through Skype (No I don't work for them) and they are starting to come out with mobile PDA / palm type systems.

The users really need high speed connections for it to work properly, so it might be a western country thing for a while, but I have used C to C versions and it has been great. The quality of the iChat is better, but only works btw Macs.

so if you travel the world and want to talk to people from around the world for about .017Eros / .02 US or .03 A$ per minute then this may be for you. Remember C to C is free.

I can send / post some articles if people are interested, or you can go to http://www.skype.com/.

I also want to know how people go with the mobile options and if Skype works on ISDN 128 speed and CDMA (Aust) 144 wireless speed, or any experiences good or bad. Also anybody who has used it in Sth America, NZ and Asia.

Thanks
Zephyr

And now you can buy a phone with flash memory and install your own Skype software and when you need to do a call just connect your phone in any computer with broadband and USB port and do yours calls without any charge for the computer owner.

Now at home I'm installing a gateway to connect my phones with Internet and the phone line at the same time, this way I do my calls using Skype, a lot cheaper than local phone calls rates, and receive call from the phone line.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
