intaride bike to bike

We bought a set of "bike to bike" from Intaride about 2 years ago. My advice would be they can be very useful but get a good quality set.
Ours were, well, not top of the range, and at speed it is impossible to have a conversation. Shouting "Petrol" or "toilet" is about all we can understand. Once you get the earplugs and with the wind we cannot understand what the other is saying.

These are supposed to be good...although not tried them myself :-

My wife and I have Chatterbox X-1 units and they work pretty well. There is always some wind noise, but with a full helmet it's not too bad. The X-1 units are designed to mount to the helmet, but I never cared for that. So, we put them on our bikes' handlebars. On my KLR650, I put the X-1 in either the tankbag or in a ram mount that I add to the bars.

We put a mount and a power supply (an inexpensive accessory) on each of our road bikes, and move the X-1 units from bike to bike, depending on what we're riding.

We don't care for VOX (voice activation), so we added another easy accessory. We put a push-to-talk button on each bike also, and that was a wonderful decision. We mounted the buttons on the left control housings, where they can be pushed with our left index fingers.

So, we mount the X-1 on the bike, plug in the power cord, the PTT and headset cords and away we go. I usually plug in an MP3 player also.

All of our road helmets have headsets in them, and they are pretty good. We can hear each other via bike-to-bike communication, and I can hear the music well.

The X-1 is rated at 5 mile distance, but 3 miles is more realistic. In flat, open terrain, 5 miles might work. In the mountains, maybe a mile.

There are other choices. I understand that Autocomm has really good noise cancelation, and other units might do well. Chatterbox X-1 has been our only experience, so I can only comment on them

Personally, Autocom every time.

All the others are still trying to beat them IMHO....

Bike-to Bike Coms

Guy and Marie,
My wife and I used a product from Baehr Communications. We installed the Capo II FRS and had pretty good success with them. We used them for a one-year trip through central and south america and had full face helmets and did not have ear plugs. Wind noise made communications tough above 65 mph. Range was no more than 2 to 3 miles and in large cities (when you get split-up at the worst times) the range was about half a mile. Push to Talk mounted on the left side, under the turn signal. a bit pricy but they are still working after almost two years.
Any way you go...nothing beats being able to talk to your partner on long trips!
