vstrom tires in mexico

I am in Acupulco trying to get metzler or michelin tires. The shop says it is an odd size for down here 150 70 R 17 rear and 110 80 19 front and will have to be ordered from mexico city . Takes 2 days to get here . Susuki seems to be few and far between here. Any local info where I may get a tire.

Moto House should be able to get you some tyres. They didn't have Tourance a couple of weeks ago but had Anakees. They won't be the same price as in the States. I think I paid $4,900 pesos (about $380dlls) for a set. You will need to call them to get the info on the accont you need to deposit the money in and then send them a copy of the deposit via fax or email and they will then ship them. Sounds complicated but it is the way they work. Shipping will take 2-5 business days.
Their website is www.motohouse.com.mx phone number is 53743856 the are code for Mexico City is 55.
The tyres are not a particularly odd size in fact are fairly common as they are the same size as the big BMW GS.

Hi there, too late I know, but keep in mind you can get away with different sizes and you may need to utilise that if you go further south, like South America.

Rear 140x80x17
Front 100(0r even 90)x90x19

It all comes down to where you are stuck. Mytyres lasted all the way from San Diego to Peru before I started to find out my size tyres were not available, especially in a knobby for the deserts, street tyres seemed to be more common

Hi Gary, say hi to the family for me :)

Cheers

Hi all,

The tires for Vstroms interchange with BMW f650, R1200GS, R1100GS, R1150GS 98-04, GS600, GS1100, KTM 950, Bridgestone Trailwings TW101, TW152, Battlewing BW501, BW502, Metzler Tourance and others, as far as I have been able to gather.

ATV Parts, ATV Tires, Dirt Bike Parts & Motocross Gear | Rocky Mountain ATV/MC had the best prices on tires when I bought end of July 2010. They may ship anywhere....

Hope this helps in the future.

Garry, just wondering is this Moto House in Mexico City?? I'll be coming in there in a couple of weeks, and it'll be time for a new set of shoes for my bike. Was hoping to get Tourances again, and I've not heard of Anakees. Any recommendations??

Moto House is in Mex City. In my experience they are the best place to buy tyres. Depending on when you come in to the city we may be able to put you up. We will be out of town from October 11th-24th. Tell me what type of bike you have and I can check around for avaikabilty and prices.

Travling strom
Where did you get your knobby in south america. i am going to leave the fromt on and am wondering if a knobby would be aavailable in columbia or peru without to much dificulty

Colombia actually make Vstroms from imported parts, so getting a nobby should not be a major drama, but I would certainly look ahead. Maybe contact Mike in Cali, he may be able to source some for you and you could then have a new tyre for the bad bits of Peru and Bolivia etc.

You won't have much luck getting a front nobby anywhere else, until maybe Santiago, which is a few desert crossings further south and they will be more expensive.

You can get a nobby in La Paz, but the best I found was an MT60, and was the wrong size, only a 90x90x19, cheap though ;)

Thanks TS I will get in touch with mike. I got the new rear tire put on in Huatulco but kept the old front on as it is good. I have never had a flat till today in the middle of sancristobal on my NEW REAR TIRE. Had to take the pack and seat off to get to the pump and plugs. I was quite a curiosity reading the directions on how to use the plug system. Not to hard once you know what the allen wrench is for. But shee worked.

A bit late now, but those things are best tried before leaving the comfort of your own garage ;) Oh, well, you got it worked out, that is the main thing.

BTW, the reason I mention Cali, rather than Medellin, is because I found it cheaper, for a camera at least, I think the taxes are different, it may not be the same for tyres, Mike will know.

In Guatamala now and tires here seem far cheeper than mexico but break pads they are talking sixty dollars us a set for the rear. I think I may have figured the plug system out before I left but the library in the bean has some books go missing sometimes. At any rate I got a hot pach put on in place of the plug a day later just for peace of mind after reading some posts about people who had the plugs leak because of who knows what.

Hey Gary, cheers for the help. Funnily enough I'm getting into town on Sunday, just as ye're leaving. Anyway, I've got a V-Strom 650, can't remember off the top of my head what the measurements are (wee bit hungover right now...), but anyway, it's all good, fair chance they have a set to fit for me in there.
Cheers for the help, much appreciated!
