Value of Mexican peso drops vs U.S. dollar

In the past seven weeks, the value of the Mexican peso has plummeted from 9.8 pesos per U.S. dollar to 11.7 pesos per U.S. dollar. I believe this is a record, it had been as high as 11.4 in 2004 and then went down. And this is at a time when the dollar has been going down the tube versus most other world currencies.

So if you have some dollars saved up, this could be a great time to ride through Mexico. When I drove through Mexico in August, unleaded regular gas was $2.75 U.S./gallon. If the peso price has remained the same, that means the current price in dollars would be $2.30 U.S./gallon. Keep in mind also that Mexican Pemex is 100% gasoline, not 90-92% like in the U.S. Diesel is less expensive than regular gasoline. Premium gasoline, seven weeks ago, was $3.20 U.S./gallon, which also may be adjusted down now due to the lower value of the peso.

The price of gas here is going up every week. It goes up about 5 mexicanm cents a liter and the idea is to get to 9 pesos a liter which would be about 36 pesos a gallon a bit over 3 dollars a gallon.
I think now is a good time to come to Mexico as the rainy season is coming to an end so it should be dry or at least dryish from now until the end of April.
I will be going on a 1 week trip around the Huasteca which is in the State of San Luis Potosi. We wil be 2 up and camping so am looking forward to it. It looks like there are some really nice places to camp and lots to see.

13.2 Mexican pesos to the U.S. dollar as of today. That means that even if regular gasoline reaches 9 pesos/liter, it will still only be $2.60 U.S. per gallon.

It was 12.75 in the bank here this morning but went as high as 14.5 yesterday. It is a good time to come. I am hoping it comes back down as I get paid in pesos. Gas at present is 7:44 pesos a litre which is about 2.34 dlls a gallon for Magna which is good enough for my V-Strom.
If the peso stays at 12.75 prices will eventually go up accordingly but at the moment Mexico is a real bargain, plus the weather is getting nice. A good time for people from the North to come.

That's Good news for us (Maybe not for the Mexicans) We will be entering Mexico in December, and after a very expensive 5 months in Europe, Canada en USA, we are looking forward to 'save' some money in Central and South America

One of the reasons for the change is that the US$ is going up a bit.

Along with Mexico, the Canadian dollar has been dropping to the US dollar as well. You can make a nice holiday up there (here) too. Just don't bring your bike. Go skiing/snowboarding, snowmobiling, hunting, hell; even go dogsledding.
