tires in mexico?

hi all.

we are about to enter mexico from california, our rear tires (130/80-17) will last for another 1k miles, how hard is it finding tires in mexico, is it wise to buy the tires in california and carry them with us ?
many thanks ahead.

Since about 95% of the motorbikes in Mexico tend to be 150cc or smaller, you'll have a bit of a tough time finding larger size tires - especially away from the larger cities. They'll also tend to more expensive than stateside.

My advice, especially since you have only a measly 1000 miles left on them, would be to replace them in California before crossing the border.

What Tires In Mexico!

It will be much easier to get tres in the US. You will pay about double here in Mexico City and will have problems getting them. I spoke to a guy with a BMW 650 yesterday and he paid $1,700pesos for a rear tire. As you are in California get tires at Chaparral yu will get mail order prices and they will fit them for you. If you take the wheels off it will be much cheaper.
If you plan on coming to Mex City, which I feel is a must see, send me a PM or contact me through the Mexico City community. We will be happy to guide you into the city, put you up and show you around.
The rainy season seems to have started now so I hope you have your raingear.
We will be away for 4 days so if you send a message I will answer on Monday
