I found this Spanish language website yesterday. I cannot vouch for it, but it certainly looks the part. It lists language schools by country and has free lessions.

Immersion schools
 

I agree with you about the immersion schools, and plan to do so.

This site lists the schools by country and their addresses. Each school is also graded by the students that have used them and the costs for each.

I meant the post to be a connection for people to choose and find the schools.

Small groups, familily stay also possilble. I enjoyed it and learned a lot.

Great thread for me. I plan on studying in Guatemala, Costa Rica, and perhaps Ecuador. Anybody had any experiences at any schools in those countries?? Especially immersion schools with family homestays. Thanks

There is a book "501 Spanish Verbs" by Barron's foreign language guides and in this book the authors list 55 essential verbs. I narrowed this list down to about 40 essential verbs. There are many different Spanish verb tenses and I am terrible at learning a foreign language so I made a Excel spreadsheet of Present and Past Tense only in first person, second person, and third person singular and plural. I carry this in my pocket and work the pueblo every day practicing with locals who are not bilingual. Poco a poco, I find it better to take it in small bites rather than be overwhelmed with the whole enchilada. This isn't a contest but rather a life long endeavor.

For example a common verb on my list is the --er verb Aprender - to learn.

Singular Present Tense
Yo aprendo..........I learn
Tu aprendes.........You learn (informal as to a friend)
Ud. aprende.........You learn (formal as to a teacher)
El, Ella .................He, She, It learn

Plural Present Tense
Nosotros aprendemos.......We learn
Uds., Ellos, Ellas aprenden..You all (Uds) or They all (Ellos,Ellas) learn

Past Tense Singular
Yo Aprendi..............I learned
Tu Aprendiste.........You learned (informal as to a friend)
Ud. aprendio...........You learned (formal as to a teacher)
El, Ella aprendio.......He, She, It learned

Past Tense Plural
Nosotros Aprendimos....We learned
Uds., Ellos, Ellas.............You all (Uds), They all learned

Once you lay out the verbs --ar, --er, --ir, in a spreadsheet and study the most commonly used tenses (present and past), then you can begin to see a pattern in the verb formations. The verb formations for regular Spanish verbs --ar, --er, --ir verbs all follow a distinct pattern. It's the irregular verbs that all get goofed up, the same as in English.

Want to learn future tense, quick and dirty? add "voy" from the verb infinitive ir (to go). Yo voy a aprender espanol. I am going to learn Spanish.

Immersion is the only way to go. PM me if you have interest in a school that will be starting immersion classes in a pueblo near Guadalajara.

we are doing patagonia to alaska in september (starting in september is better english) and am struggling with spanish id love that excel spreadsheet if possible
