spanish courses

as soon as we arrive in south america we intend to learn spanish for a few weeks. can anyone recommend a school in Santiago or the rest of Chile which is both good and cheap.
regarding the subject of languages.... how much english is actually spoken and what level of spanish is sufficent to get by without too much body and sign language. i hope not to have to do the chicken dance too much when requesting a egg for breakfast !!

A good place to start is 123teachme.com, although sometimes the info is old. Check out the guide books also, they usually list recommended schools.

Some English institutes have (or maybe had) a program for English speaking people who want to learn Spanish that you can pay teaching English to local people. Ask in Tronwell Institute or similars. You can find it in Yellow pages.

In the traditional way, Berlitz Institute have a special program called "Total Immersion" that promise to teach you a new language (Spanish, English, German or Portugues) in 2 or 3 weeks. Phone 2352341, 6727639, 2288679. www.berlitz.com
