Should I sell my bike in Costa Rica?

I just drove my 2006 Vulcan down here from Michigan and was planning on staying a month or so and driving back to the states. A local said he is interested in buying it from me. While sentimentaly I don't want to sell it, the expense of driving it back has me thinking at least. I asked him about me having to pay import tax on it, he said he would do that. Seems if the price we agreed on reflected that then obviously I would be paying it not him.
He said we could talk more about it later. Just wondering the legality's of it, the paperwork, will it be worth it for him to buy it and pay me the import tax on it, and would that be legal as well. Just wondering at this point.
Other options if I don't want to sell it would be ship it back to Michigan, or drive it back to the states and rent a uhaul to carry it back to Michigan in the dead of winter.....Shipping it sounds pretty expensive too...
Any thoughts, thanks....
And of course a big part of the question here is if I could expect to get the same value out of it that I could in the states.

Bikes in the USA are very cheap hence the reason for the import tax in CR otherwise all of the dealers there would go broke because every1 would be buying bikes from the states so you will get your moneys worth depending on how high the import tax is.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
