whatever you do, make sure you AVOID "schenker international": the most incompetent bunch of muppets and thieves on the planet.

Shipping agent in Panama...?

Hey folks, know this is a long time after the event, but anyway, I've searched the HUBB and the internet, a lot, to no avail... I'm getting to Panama in a month, and I won't have a hell of a lot of time available (or I'd rather spend it somewhere else...), but I just can't seem to find an agent in Panama. Any suggestions......?

These rates are valid to Oct. 31. Please advice which date on November you planned to ship your motorcycle from Panama.

We will need you to bring or send us copy of your passport, documents & registration of the motorcycle, and the permits that the Panama Customs will issue when crossing the Panamanian border with Costa Rica.

Procedures here in the city might take 2 to 3 days if everything is Ok.

As of last November, you could ship a bike on Girag yourself without an agent for that price--US$900 plus $50 or so in Bogota (Actually, as of last November you could also ship it on Copa for US$600, but that didn't last long). The procedure took a couple of hours and didn't require advance notice or sending documents ahead. If you timed it according to their schedule, you could drop off the bike one afternoon and pick it up in Bogota the next day.

There might be a reason to use an agent, but I haven't seen it yet. Even with an agent you'll have to deliver it to the airport, spend some time dealing with papers, etc. I did not have to crate, drain fluids, disconnect battery, or anything else.

Hope that helps.

Mark

Where do they fly to?Bogota and Medellin? What would be the best city to fly to?

buyarbi 31 Oct 2010 06:14

I flew panama city to bogata with girag a couple of weeks ago. Bogata is a big place and I was glad to be out of there but the girag people were easy to deal with and the cargo area in bogata is close to the flight terminals so it was simple. No aditional agent required. In panama city to get to girag you go tward airport from freeway and come to a tee intersection. that goes right to the airport and left to the cargo area. There is a sign at that tee that says cargo area to the left. You drive 8 kilometers around the airport to get to girag. Just keep going right and you get there. You eventually get to a gate that you go through and then keep going right through the next gate . You will come to a sort of oficial type building. go past and around the circle a bit. Girag is on the right. The official type building i mentioned is where you will have to get a stamp for the bike to fly out after you settle up with Girag. Cash only is accepted
I speak no spanish. I have no clue on Medilin.

Lonesome George, I've actually tried this guy before, and got no answer. You gave me these details before on a different link, but yeah, the guy never responded.
Gugie1, what's the story with this Girag crowd, do they ship to Europe too do you know. Sorry to hear about your spill too. Hope you're back up and fighting fit again soon...
