Sailing around the Darien Gap

I will be leaving Tucson AZ December 15th for Lima Peru on my 1999 1500 Goldwing. I have a friend's home available in Panama and have not yet made provisions for getting the bike to Columbia. Could anyone tell me approximately how long it takes for the boat to get the container to Columbia? I also saw some talk about a sail boat. Is that faster and do you go with your bike? I would welcome any advise regarding these options.

We are also looking for a way to get across the Darien Gap. I've heard of small boats that can take you to SA. But some people say their bikes were rusted after the trip (salt water) and it got into their electrical system which caused problems. :-(

What is the Stahlratte? Where does it leave/go to? I just mentioned to somebody else that we are also looking for a way to get across the Darien Gap. But some people say their bikes were rusted after the trip (salt water) and it got into their electrical system which caused problems. :-( So how big is the Stahlratte? Are the bikes protected from the salty air?

Hi everyone,
I will be crossing from Panama with the Stahlratte on Nov 1st. Only read and heard good things about it.
Price is 900$ for both passenger and biker.
I am sure it is a very nice trip but I would have liked to find a faster and cheaper way to cross over. Meaning, skipping the San Blas Islands... I'm sure it's really nice but I only want to get to Colombia, which could be done in 2 days.
Damn, crossing got really expensive, 900$ is a big cut in the budget !
I've looked into containers as well but it doesn't seem much cheaper (if at all...).
