Piedras Negras vs Nuevo Laredo
 

Hey Folks

We're planning to cross in Mexico tomorrow with the goal to reach Santiago just outside of Monterrey (we are going South on 85 to 101 to Xilitla).

We'd like to cross via Piedras Negras since it's a bit closer drive to where we are right now in Texas. Anyone have any advice on this?

Perhaps it would be better to drive more in the US than on Mexican highways. Both crossings are OK; Laredo is budsier. It would be a straight shot from there.

However, NL can be more hectic and maybe more "problematic."

I like Piedras Negras/Eagle Pass, since the migracion and aduana are 50k or so into the country at a little town called Allende , it just gets you away from the border quicker, usually a good thing. Either is fine.

Thanks kindly! Due to high winds today we went slower than expected and are in Del Rio tonight with plans to cross here tomorrow.

Hi, I guess I'm too late with this response but we crossed into Mexico from Texas about two months ago and had a good experience at the McAllen crossing (Pharr Internation Bridge). It's not a long drive from San Antonio and it makes the journey to Monterey shorter in Mexico. The crossing had a lot of trucks even by 8.30am but the non commercial traffic lane was empty and in the hour we spent at the crossing not a single other person came into the migracion/banjercito office. We didn't get searched at all and the whole process was efficient and friendly.


We're now in Oaxaca and about to start a slow journey back up to the US, probably in Arizona somewhere.

Last year i took piedras negras. This is a very simple crossing. Take this one, you won't regret.
