Panama -> Colombia sharing shipping container

Anyone interested in splitting the cost of a container sometime in the next month or three to Colombia from Panama? I don't have a set date and am not quite ready to leave Central America just yet but I could firm something up if that means being able to split a container. Looks like it should be something like 1500 bucks for a whole 40' container +- a few hundred depending, so if any other motorists of either the two or four wheeled sorts are out there let's get together and save some cash.

Have you already crossed? My brother and I just had our boat fall through and so are looking for a way to get our two bikes across in the next week or so. Open to all options.

Good thing I found this post! Best way to keep computer time to a minimum while travelling is to set up email notifications on forums. Just don't forget to actually set them up...

So I am looking at crossing in Oct-Nov now, there was a lot of fun had here in central america but it is time to move SOUTH! Who is crossing around that time?

Bad Babba, are there any details you could share with us about the crossing? The way you describe sounds like precisely what I had in mind, what kind of bike did you take and how did you get it on the boat? Having heard some horror stories this is my biggest concern with just tossing it on the cheapest bidder's rig.

I am still in Panama City due to an accident.
Check this out San Blas Ferry - Home, Colon, Cartagena, San Blas, Panama, Columbien
and
Cruce marítimo en moto tramo desde Turbo-Colombia hasta Miramar-Panamá - Colombia - WorldNomads.com

let me know if you figure out a good way.
I will try to find out more tomorrow.

Don't buy your tickets in advance...

Careful Norschweger, There have been a few ferry schemes here and there.

I too have had some troubles, hope you've managed to recuperate to 100%.

I speak spanish in case you have any questions about the cruce maritimo link you sent me - it's a good one for the way back, and advice on how not to do the crossing if you're in a hurry..

what happend Toby?

norschweger 18 Oct 2013 04:19

I know...as far as I have heard, the ferry did not leave the day it was scheduled.
Fritz, the owner, replied to my question way later.
The captain of a very well-known boat is very negative about the owner and says that he does not care for security and loss of lifes, only for money.
I am still recuperating from an accident, where a car crashed into my side and have not made a decision yet...
thanks for the offer to help.

I have seen the ferry in Cartagena and met the poor guys who took it!
They say it was a horror trip!
the 24 hours turned to 6 days!!! of floating around and trying to get a permit to go on shore. new promises every day, a toilet that you better do not enter, bad hammocks (no beds) and pasta and meat day in day out, topped by a "psychotic"owner...I would NOT take it, if it ever sails again!

Thumbs up for the Stahlratte, great boat and crew! Fantastic trip!
