Northern Mexico in Seven Days??

I am planning a trip to Mexico during the 2nd week of April 05. First bike trip outside the US. I have seven days to cover Copper Canyon, Mazatlan and Zacatecas from the border in Presidio, Tx. Do you, experienced travelers, think this is doable? I will be riding a 98VFR800. I appreciate your input. Thanks everyone and enjoy your travels.

Are you planning to RIDE or sightsee? Seems to me that for your first trip outside the US you'd be better off planning much more conservatively. You CAN do it, but you'll miss the whole point of going.

Time required to travel a given distance are much longer generally in Mexico.

Half the distance, or twice the time, = twice the fun.

I agree with John.
Creel is far way north. I did a trip once from Creel to Casas Grandes (Chihuahua), here are my bumbers.
I have done the roads and points you are interested in, it really seems like a busy schedule (I agree with Grant)
I have some info from a trip last year, maybe it will help.
From Creel to Casas Grandes Chihuahua:
412 kms
4hrs 33min Moving time
57 min stopped
5hrs 30 min total time
Max speed 162 km/hr

Then from Creel you mught want to go to Durango and take the "DevilĀ“s Backbone", a very twisty and scenic road to Mazatlan.

It will take from Creel to Hidalgo del Parral something like:
349 kms
4h 18 min moving time
at a moving average of 81.6 kms per hr.

The road from Mazatlan to Durango I did it
will take something like 3.5 hours.

In MHO I would do Creel, stay there one whole day or two, then to durango.
Then to mazatlan and then back maybe via hermosillo-Creel again.

But for shure the way you planned you will be in a hurry, Zacatecas is worth staying a couple of days too.

Any more info please ask and I will help gladly.

Morocycler,
Thanks for the information I appreciate it.
I am going to try either extending my stay or
shorten the trip so I can enjoy the scenery.
Then I will do it next year again coming down may be from the west coast.
Thanks again.

I am in a similar situation to you. I have never taken my motorcycle out of the USA. I am thinking of a very similar route, but planning on about 2 weeks to complete it. Good Luck,
Dave

Just extend you travelling time cause you gonna fall in love with Mexico once you will put 2 wheels there and will regret to not have come earlier and for a longer period...
