Mexico-Guatemala import fees?
I'm currently living in Mexico but may moving and/or staying for a while in Gautemala. Really living more or less in both. Anyways I wondering, being as I've heard that Mexico charges around a $400 usd import fee that if Guatemala does as well. I've heard that they supposidly give you the money back when you leave, but still it's an inconvienence. Especially if I plan on crossing the border multiple times. Anyways I don't know wheter to buy a bike here in Mexico or there in Guatemala. Lets just say I'd be in both countries equally. I've heard that I could get a decent used bike in Guatemala easier and cheaper than here in Mexico, however if I do buy new I'd most likely buy the Honda CGL 125 TOOL here in Mexico because it's around $200 usd cheaper than it is in Guatemala. Anyways, I suppose I'll just keep it simply...if I buy a bike in Mexico will I have any problem using it for long periods of time in Guatemala. And vice versa?

Your TVIP will cost you $49 USD in Mexico with a $400 USD bond refundable if you obey the rules, that is good for 6 months at least for travellers.
Your TVIP into Guatemala will cost you $160 Q and is not refundable and is for 3 months at least for travellers. Hope that helps Cheers Andi

Beware of tramitadores..
As Guaterider says...Q160. not USD. I had a friend that was stiffed out of $160 and did not realized the mistake until 100 kms later. Of course he was not able to get his money back.
There is ablsolutly no need to have anyone do the TRAMITES for you. They are simple, straight forward and Customs and immigration people are for the most part straight shooters.

So it probably makes more sense all around to buy the bike in mexico. The other thing is I waas thinking about buying a used bike here n guatemala but I think it would be too much of a hassle trying to import it to mexico, register it etc...too much money as well....anybody familiar with this?
