mexico customs sea/air

does anybody have informations about the customs and banjercito procedure sending a bike (with !!!luggage!!! which might be more problematic here) from mexico to europe by plane or ship...?

the things here seems to be a little bit more difficult than in other countries
(maybe exept brasil)...
lots of common shipping companies don't ship bikes from mexico...

I helpedaSwiss guy get his bike out of the airport in Mexico City and itwasa bit complicated but not impossible. Shipping out should be similar. Send me a PM if you want me to look into it a little more.

I have no information for you but was wondering if it might be feasible to ride into the USA and ship from there?

Bunda, what are you two doing still in Mexico? Has it been that difficult to find a shipper? Stick around any longer and we can get together for a beer--I should be passing through in a week or two.

FWIW, Stefan Knopf, who can be googled, does a container from Florida (USA) to Germany once a year. He's cheap, reliable and knows his way around. Unless you're opposed for ethical or practical reasons, you might consider this (or similar). The USA is a strange and unwieldy country, but it's a fun place to ride around on a motorbike.

GUYS, NEVER SHIP FROM MEXICO!!!!!!!!!! :censored:

It Is Done

7 weeks after I got my quote from the shipping agency for the air(!)fright, my bike arrived in germany...

things to know, shipping from mexico:

- have time...

- you need a personal custom agent (YOU, not the shipping agency is able to book / arange it... BY MEXICAN LAW! and be really shure that they deal with private persons!)

- make shure that you are able to send the equipment WITH your bike IN THE SAME box! otherwhise you need an extra box for the stuff!!! (customs Mexico...!)

- be shure, the airline send your box as it is (not stockable, etc)... and not as a standard measurement or anything else (take care with Lufthansa...)

- BE CAREFULL WIHT SENDING CLOTHES! make shure you are allowed to do it. It needs sepcial customs procedure...

- have a packing list in SPANISH with each pice of your loding... (every screw...!)

- this should be clear, but i write it also down: Don´t send new things!

- at least, have plenty of time.......... ( I sent my bike 5 times by air, it took always less than a week, from the quote to the delivery, but this was hell.............)

HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE :blushing:

Sorry to ear it's been so complicated.
I am myself looking for a way to send my bike from Mexico to Lima (I live in Mexico, I would have give you a hand if I have found out sooner of your problem)

Could you recommend a company or agent I could contact to get a quote to send my bike? So far, I cannot find anyone to send the bike for less than 5000 USD...

How much did you pay to send the bike to Germany?

bunda 13 Sep 2010 19:12

I used hellmann mexico, originally the price was 1200USD, but than Lufthansa changed the quote to 5000USD...
My time was tight, so I shipped than by air for 2500USD by AirFrance...
If I had more time, I would have sent my bike by sea from VeraCruz (after LH changed the price), it is much cheaper (for shure...)

Zibou 13 Sep 2010 20:29

Thanks Bunda, it's funny, I contacted hellman (strange name by the way...) and the guy which is making my quote told me about a bike they just sent to Germany.
As I have read about your issues I told him I heard about you and he explained the change of quote buy the company, the issue with your box and so on.
Wel,l glad to know your bike arrived finally.

Regarding the sea option by Veracruz, did you get a quote from the same guys at hellman or by other means? As I have still time to send the bike (I need it in Lima by December) sea could be an option if there is real difference in price.

bunda 15 Sep 2010 18:55

yes I got also a quote from hellmann.
but the problem in veracruz was, that we couln´t find a customs agent (who is dealing with private persons) in the short time i had left in mexico...

p.s. hellmann is german and hell means bright, not infierno...
