Los angeles to Guatemala

Starting trip from L.A., actually Sta. Barbara to Guatemala next week. Would like to cruise easy and safely. Which is the best route? Entry to Mexico? Plan to sleep over at the border, before or after reaching it? Any sugestions welcomed, thanks, Marcos.

Hundreds of great ways to go, I'll let others give suggestions.

Re the border, always arrive early at a border, from around 100 miles away, and try to get as far away from it as possible after. The US / Mexico border is an especially good one to get well away from as quickly as possible. The US / Mexico border towns are where gringos go to let loose - and the bad guys know that there will be plenty of drunk / rich / stupid gringos wandering around, so they're on the lookout for them.

Other than that, you should have a great trip! Enjoy!

I´d do it my way if I was to do it again, and that is to go down Baja to Sta Rosalia, ferry to Guaymas, then south along coast to Guat. and go little east at last minute to different crossing than Tapachula. Buen Viaje--PW
