Leaving Panama the proper way

I'm planing to leave Panama on a sailing boat headed for Colombia with my bike. So how do I cancel the vehicle permit when there is no proper border formalities (my passport will be stamped out by a border official that will get on board before departure).

Sure some of you must have done this before.

Cheers

I have now arrived in Colombia from Panama and can answer my own question.

The solution was just letting the border officer stamp the vehicle permit too. This is not the proper way, but will probably do the job in case I return with the bike and they wonder about the cancellation.

Happy travels

Shipping advice

Hi Bo.

I am in Panama City waiting for my sailboat to Colombia which leaves on Friday (5 days). I have planned on wrapping the bike with protective plastic covering to keep the salt water off of it.

Did you find it necessary to do this? If so, where did you buy plastic sheeting for the bike?

Thanks!

Protecting the bike

We didn't do it, but the bikes did get salt water on them since we got in to rough sea. So some kind of protective plastic might be a good idea, but it will be hard to fully cover the bike, since it will probably be tied to the rails of the boat.

Unfortunately I don't know where to buy plastic in PC, try Home Depot or something.

Have an amazing journey.

a tarp

dudes, a tarp, if your captain has transported bikes before he'll know how to tie the bike down and the tarp separately so neither take a dive in the ocean. make sure they're taking you all the way to colombia, not to zapzurro...
