Leaving Mexico for a couple of weeks then re-entering

Hi I was searching around on this and couldn't find an answer. We're in San Christobal now and are planning on continuing to ride south into Central and South America.

However, my grandmother is turning 90 and we'd like to vist her in Southern California. We can hop a flight to SoCal from Meixco city and then come back in a couple of weeks. We'd both still be well inside our tourist visa of 6 months and the vehicle import permit hasn't expired either.

Will we be able to re-enter without any trouble since the bike will be left behind in Mexico for those two weeks? Is it possible to exit and re-enter without having to purchase a new tourist visa?

Thanks!

I don't know if it works going back to the USA. But when I did my trip this spring I left Mexico via Guatemala, rode down to Panama and back and kept all my papers for the return trip. No problems whatsoever. Since the bike isn't stamped into your passport I don't see why it would be a problem. But who knows if you'll be asked to surrender your tourist visa at the airport. Try explaining that you're coming back, which is what I did upon exiting via Guatemala. I'm sure others will have more details than this.

You will have to surrender your tourist visa when flying out, and will get a new one when you return. You can leave your bike in Mexico as that is a different permit, make sure to return before your tvip expires.:scooter:
