Leaving Jeep in Costa Rica or Panama
Eh,

I need to go back home for a month and make money for the container shipping. Is it possible for me to leave the Jeep for a month in Panama or Costa Rica at a friend's house, or will I be turned down at the airport cause the Jeep is still in the country??

Is the car registered in your passport? If so, like in India and Iran, it might be a problem if they come across it in your passport.

If not, I personally think it wouldn't be a problem. You might ask the customs? To be sure.

Do you know what shipping company you intend to use? It may be that they can store the vehicle for you while it awaits shipment. You might can even get it in a container and have it sealed so that the truck and any other prizes of your travels are secure. Then when you hit the airport all of the vehicles travel documents are in place showing the shipping invoice as the exit papers for the truck.

Old thread, but I'll add some advice for anyone finding this in the future.

The easiest option is often to park the vehicle between the borders. I was in Costa Rica 3 months, went down to Panama for a couple of weeks, then came back. Costa Rica wouldn't let the bike back in (after 90 days in CR a vehicle has to be out for 90) so I wandered around the border town and parked the bike in a fella's front yard. It's covered and fenced in all round. Then I got on a bus into Costa Rica.

Otherwise, if you leave the vehicle inside the country, you have to be back by the time your vehicle permit expires or you'll get into shit trying to leave with the vehicle.

it is possible to get some form of suspension on the paperwork if you leave the vehicle in aduanas but am not exactly sure how it works

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
