BMW Mexico City Dealers & Mecanics

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I just finishing crossing Africa from Cape Town to Cairo, two-up on a F800GS. We did 20,000 kms and 10 countries (blog). Now we are moving to Mexico City for work. The bike now has 30,000 and it needs quite a bit of work done to it (new rims, new shocks, new bearings etc).

I would like to know in/around Mexico City who is the best BMW mechanic and which dealer has more motorcycle sales/movement.

If your bike is arriving in Veracruz, let me know, Rafael Lago at MotoPits here is a factory trained BMW mechanic who is one of the best in eastern Mexico.
North to south.
Dealing with Motorrad in Mexico can be a trying and frustrating and general pain in the arse experience. Don't expect miracles, expect prices on parts to be higher than US, and don't expect a real factory trained mechanic to actually be working on your bike though certain dealers will tell you their staff are all trained, they are not.
I own and ride a BMW F650GS twin 800cc and use it as daily transportation.
PM me if you need any help. Don't forget that insurance will be obligatory come the fall.

I read your other thread regarding this topic
I guess I do not need a BMW mechanic but someone good that knows how to work on BMWs. My odometer is saying I need service and it would be nice to have someone with the computer hook up to remove the message.
I have family in the US, I'll see if I can get the parts there.
A relocation company is moving my things so they should deliver the bike in Mexico City.

I soon I get the paper work sorted out I'll start doing long weekend trips and hopefully we can meet

Ok, when you get sorted, let me know and we'll get together. Some very good riding over on this coast.
The service message I have learned to live with, after awhile it doesn't bother me anymore, however, Rafael's shop can take of that while you wait, very easily. He uses the GS9-11 tool that allows for resets and comprehensive scanning of the codes.
You are welcome to use my garage, I do a lot of the work on my bike by myself, I've got the BMW DVD manual, and the Haynes for your perusal and use anytime you need them.
Remember that, very soon, insurance for all vehicles will be obligatory throughout Mexico. Let me know if you need help with insurance, I use a service through BMW that you can also take advantage of and save a serious amount of pesos and have more than enough total coverage.

Garry recommended Motohouse for tires when I was passing thru DF and needed a fresh rear tire for my F800GS in May 2013. I bought a Bridgestone and was happy with the service and price. There is a mechanic in the next block that mounts tires. Garry also mentioned Motomundo for tires.

If you are organizing a spare parts care package from the US, then I suggest you check the wheel bearings and front sprocket. These wore out on my South America trip.

Thank you Peter! I met with Garry a couple of days ago and he recommend the same shops!

I already took the bike to the dealership in Switzerland and they gave me a quote of approx 4,000 USD to fix/change everything needed on the bike

Labor in Switzerland is ridiculously expensive. Just to give an idea they charged me 160 USD just on labor to change the tires!!!

So, I have a list of things that the dealership recommend and a list of things that I know need to be changed... now I just need to wait for the bike and find a mechanic here in Mexico.

The bikes still rides so maybe I do take it to Veracruz

Just used Rafa at MotoPits in Veracruz and he is great. Has everything needed for a service in stock. He found us a hotel and the bike was ready at 9am the next morning. ¡Brilliant!
