KTM LC4 service in Mexico?
I just crossed over 3k miles from my departure and the last service on my KTM 640 Adventure. It's time to look for some sort of KTM-authorized facility to handle the service... oh, and I'm about ready for a new rear tire.

I'm in the vicinity of Puerto Vallarta right now.

Where's the nearest good KTM wrench? Is there one in Guadalajara, or do I need to go to Mexico City?

I had read through the thread, unfortunately the only recommendations in Mexico are the dealer in Mexico City and a phone number for what looks like an unauthorized shop in PVR (ie, won't keep my warrantee valid).

The Moto Altavista site shows a KTM shop in Guadalajara, does anyone have any experience with them?

I will definitely post my experience as soon as I have it

Just some friendly advice from a KTM owner, use octane boost. I think the fuel in CA and SA is getting worse. I cratered my motor, and Simon cratered his (A KLR motor!!!,) the damage seemed to originate from poor fuel.

Thanks for the warning. The fuel so far in Mexico has been excellent, but I expect it to get worse as I go south. If I detect any ping I'll put the ignition in low-octane mode.

Damn, cratering a KLR motor, that's amazing.

I tried looking at the KTM site here but it's not user friendly. Try sending Motoaltavista an e-mail to palmas@motoaltavista.com.mx They may have dealers in others parts of the city bit I couldn't find them. I'll try and give them a call tomorrow and tell you what they say. If you have to come to Mex City (it's a great place to visit) send me a PM

Let me officially recommend the KTM dealer (Motoaltavista) in Guadalajara. They fit me in without notice, knew the LC4 well, worked cheap (less than $100 including oil and parts - you don't want to know what this costs at Scuderia in SF), and even washed my bike!

The only hard part was finding it. The address is Patria #2128, cross street Acueducto. It's on <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=20.708989,-103.408481&spn=0.002118,0.003358&t=h&z=18&om=0">th is block</a>, just a short distance from the BMW dealership.

I will be riding up through Mexico City in early March to visit the Tultepec fireworks festival. Do you know of it? I went a couple years ago (flying, not riding) and it was the craziest thing I've ever done. Makes Burning Man look like amateur hour. Any interest in checking it out? It's only about 30 miles north of D.F.

Further to Ihoriman's suggestion of the Tultepec fireworks- a similar event is staged during the month of March at Atotonilco El Grande , Hidalgo state . about 30km north of Pachuca (via Mex 105). Saw it once, quite noisy , spectacular and in certain respects it could be downright dangerous if one were standing too close to some of the spinning wheels which looked as if they might break up and throw explosives all over. Accidents have happened at similar events.
As to KTM service , the website Bienvenidos a grupo moto altavista is what Gary is referring to . I tried it and it seems fairly easy , just click on the Mexican flag then go thru their selections and click on "puntos de venta" and then on the various states on the map they show and it gives locations of their shops ,if any .
