Hi ,

Well I finally made it into Mexico crossing over on the afternoon of Friday 8th September into the Baja.

I got me checked into Mexico, I got my motorcycle checked into Mexico but I need some questions answered.

I got the motorcycle permit which looks like it should be three parts but nowhere to tear it. DO I cut it into 3 parts and stick the middle part on my fairing or keep it in one piece and keep it with my paperwork?

I have no warning triange in my luggage , I am heading towards TDF for xmas and New year If i need one , where do I get one?

final question which concerns me the most, at immigration the guy wouldnt take my green card, I still have this , what should I do with it. I will soon be on america's top 100 wanted tourists and wont ever be allowed back into teh Usa, I have a dated mexico stamp, any help or advice would be good.

The temp vehicle permit should have a fancy sticker that you place on your bike. Some people keep the sticker with their paperwork, only showing it if and when requested.

I don't know what your green card is. If you're 'checked in'/cleared into Mexico...ride.

What you are referring to as a"green card" may be the I 94 (? correct me if I use the incorrect number) form which you filled out when you entered the USA This card is issued to temporary visitors in lieu of a visa and it gives permission to stay in the US as a visitor for a limited time and costs $6 each time you get one. It is green and valid for 2 or 3 months and should be handed back to the US customs guys before it expires. At the borders this can be confusing as on the Canadian end the Canadian customs folks will accept it as a courtesy and see that it gets returned to the proper authorities in the US. On the Mexican side, as you found out , they may want nothing to do with it.
If you do not want to bother going back into the US to hand it in I suggest you retain it until you come to a Mexican city with a US consular office and give them a visit, explain your situatiion and your wish to remain within the laws of the US to protect your future entries and they will probably accept it and send it through channels.
Multiple entry visas for the US are a thing of the past. I had one for many years but it was cancelled three years ago as I came back into Texas from Mexico. Now I have to get an I94 for each three month spell .

I assume by "green card" you mean the I-94 which is usually green. They probably stamped your passport. Check *all* the pages in your passport for a stamp that corresponds to the date and place wher you exited the U.S.

BTW, the I-94 is not the same as a visa. They are related but not the same.

Visa waiver?
 

Is'nt that the half of the visa waiver that is stapled in your passport.

Happened to me before that they forgot or didn't bother taking it back when leaving the US. Never had any problems with it.

I don't want to get too technical for several reasons but ...

There is no visa when you enter the country on a "visa waiver". The visa is "waived' i.e. they let people from certain countries enter the U.S. without a visa. The "green card" or I-94 states how long you are allowed to remain in the country. If you remain in the U.S. beyound that date you are here illegally (with certain exceptions only a lawyer could love).

Thanks for your replies. Sorry in my late replies, time on the road and missing posts etc :-D

The green card I refer to is my permission to enter the states for 3 months. Not sure of the number or code right atm.

At this time I am not exceptionally worried for in two weeks time I am flying back to the UK for a couple of weeks, with a landing in MIami but not stayinng. I am hoping that I can either sort it with officials there or with the USA embassy back in the UK.

Thanks for all the replies and help, like many others this is my first time doing this stuff, tis a steep learning curve and having fun.

Missing since September 11th, 2006. Last know whereabouts in Menizales, Columbia. Riding a Honda Africatwin/Transalp on/off road motorcycle with aluminum saddlebags.
6’2” tall, with medium brown hair (likely shaved bald)
approx 220lbs., average build. Also goes by the nickname “Chris Crash”.

If I should meet him on the road, will let you know I promise and will tell him that he needs to contact home.
