Honduras Border Crossing info from 11/12
 

ok I/we crossed into Honduras about a month ago (on Nov 12). One of the best roads/rides of the trip was on the road mentioned in the prior posts that was shut down. Here it is, Ill say it again (it was posted in my other thread in the general travel forum)...the road (CA11) from Vado Hondo (turn left off of CA10) to the border crossing at El Florido was SUPERB. I HIGHLY Reccomend it after reading the BS in other threads on corruption. There was maybe 40-50 people around, very civil, people admiring the bikes (heck... kids offered to clean our rims), no "helpers" around or needed. The cost for the crossing was 630 lempiras ($35 US)...to exit Guatemala and enter Honduras took less than 30 minutes nice and relaxed and secure. My KLR is sitting on the island of Roatan at the moment taking a break until I return in spring.....and I was able to have them give the entry permit for the bike for 120 days No Problemo...the road was excellent and all asphalt all the way to san Pedro Sula, so don;t sweat it (there was maybe 100 feet of a mud wash across the road at one point). We went on to La Cieba before getting a ferry to Roatan. No problems.....

Yep. I can only agree with this again. Copan Ruinas is the crossing to do when you go from Guatemala to Honduras. Quieter, friendlier and cost for us too was US$35 in December 2004.

With regard to the paved road and for clarity, the road is totally paved now all the way from when you leave the Pan Am on the Guatemalan side (a few miles after Chiquimuli) up to El Florido and then on the Honduras side all the way back to you meet the main raod to go either upto San Pedro de Sula or down to Santa Rosa.

Read the other post on Honduran border crossings. This is what the HUBB is all about. Current Info that affects travellers. Unfortunately Maja was relieved of some beer/travel money by entrepenurial locals, which has happened to most of us, But now he has a good story to tell and I expect everyone will avoid the Agua Caliente crossing.
Please keep the info coming for those of us "stuck" between trips...
