Honduran cops on the taike with a sense of humor
 

Road block 5 miles out of Amatillo, the El Salvator border. Six cops officiating. "Drivers's Licence, please. Go with me to my car to keep the papers dry." I follow. He looks into a thick book of "inditable offences." He says, "I have to fine you US$6.00 for an offence against paragraph 96." The print is so small, I have to go back to the bike and get my glasses. It says, "Failure to carry a spare tire." I laugh out loud. "But sir, this is a moto, not a car. I haven't seen anyone in Honduras carry a spare tire on a moto." "No matter," he says. "It says all 'motors', and you're a 'motor'." I say, "Sir, you're making fun of me. I'd like to see your jefe." He replies, "I am the jefe," pointing to the stripes on his shoulders. I pay.
