Going to El Salvador - Advice on places to go (or not!)

Hi all
We're now in Guatemala and riding for El Salvador once we do a much needed Spanish course in Quezaltenango.

I haven't seen any recent posts about places to go or stay in El Salador in a while. Does anyone who has been through that way recently have any ideas or recomendations for us please?

Any help will be much apreciated as ever.

Cheers Chris & Liz
P.S. We have advice on current stability of the country etc.

P.P.S. Anyone else going that way in the next few weeks? Fancy a beer?

Just after entering ES, there is a national park called Cerro Verde to the left. At the top of the mountain is the park, with a nice little self guided tour. No camping there, but 200m down the road is a access road to camping. There are little cabins to rent on this mountainside, but I think the camping was free, I don`t recall. Anyway, a nice place to camp, views of two mountains, and nice paved riding (except for the access road to the camping). The next day I left ES, so that is the only highlight I can offer!
Enjoy!

Hi there guys!!!!

Good to see you are on the move again. I took the road from Antigua down to the ES border then followed the coast road to La Libertad. This is a pretty road but the town was a dump and many surfers hanging out there were robbed. Like Rene, I got the hell out of ES the next day.

Good luck!

Matt

That coastal road (Highway 2, maybe?) from either border through La Libertad is gorgeous - fresh black tarmac, volcanoes, Pacific surf. Playa Tunco's a nice spot for a kip and ceviche. San Salvador is tasty rough.

Watch out for hurricanes - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4565643.stm
