Experience? sorta

I tried renewing my permit. I can tell you this:

1) You have to renew at the frontier (border) - Aduana offices inside the country (Guatemala City, Xela, etc.) won't handle the renewal.

2) You will have no problem if you return to your original border entry crossing.

3) If the Aduana computer system is down, you can't renew unless you do #2.

I know #2 and #3 because I attempted to renew on a Saturday, travelling 125km from Xela to the nearest Mexican border crossing point only to find out their computer system was down and I was told I needed to return the next day. If I had returned to my original entry point, they could pull my paperwork and update the computer files when the system became available.

Thanks for the info! sounds rather simple.
So if we manage this we will probably stay here for a couple of more weeks. We are at San Pedro at lake Atitlan.

I was in Guatemala last October-November. I'm around Lima, Peru presently, wandering south from here.

Buen viaje!

I renewed my importation permit a number of times at SAT in Puerto Barrios. I just had to pay the (?)40 Q's every 6 weeks.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
