expired US registration and Central American border

I brought my bike into Mexico over 1 year ago from Colorado. Currently it is fine for Mexican travel as I have a FM3 visa good until April and the Mexican bike papers are good until then.
The US registration is expired and I am wondering if I can expect problems traveling through Central American Borders.
What say yee?

I think I might point out that our gracious hosts, Grant and Susan ended up letting the "cat out of the bag" in renewing the registration that the bike was out of the country, and then Canada stalled the re-registration process....so don't ask, don't tell....

Nowadays many states (I know AZ does) have online registration renewals....easy and simple.

Thanks for the comments.
As Patrick says, it probably won't be an issue.
I have not updated the registration because you have to pay first for insurance (which does me no good in Mexico anyway) to re-register the bike.

My fist choice would be what Patrick suggested, use the title/pink slip.
Also...most Internet cafe's in larger cities will have a scanner. Modify, print, then make copies...and age them.:)

...agreed. In fact, make a duplicate of your registration/ title/ pinkslip and use this so you can keep your original. I did :) As long as you have a piece of paper with your name as it is on your passport, your licence plate and your VIN #, and it looks important and official, nothing else matters.

use the title if you have it. customs officials and cops are getting better at finding ways to get money out of you. i personally would NOT travel with an expired registration. especially after having being in 20 countries these past 6 months and seeing how clever the cops are becoming. i would at least make a hight quality color scan and fix it as it has been mentioned above. but the best option to avoid problems is to get a new registration which is my recomendation.

expired registration.........

I just got back in Denver 2 days ago from Nicaragua. As you know Colorado does not plate dirt bikes. Even though yours is plated and titled.........you can always refer to it as a bike for the trails; which is exactly what I did, stating that registation isn't necessary in Colorado. LOL. The title comes with a plate...registration is optional. I also agree with Mollydog....as long as the VIN's match your title....you will have no problem. If you ever have a problem at one border, try another in order to get the answer you want. I have done this trip more than 3 times now with never a problem...........mentira(nothing that a little mordita couldn't solve)! It's all part of the adventure...............just think, imagine a Guatemalan prison.....consider it part of the adventure. Anyone up for traveling with me on my next adventure??
Good luck........I used to sail out of Southhampton (CSY 44 the 44,000lb displacement version)
safe travels,
Lizanne
