Denied re-entry in Costa Rica

I decided to enter Costa Rica by its northern point, but !!!!
Guess what? They won't let me in because I entered through Paso Canoas and the Aduana guy in Sixaola had never seen a British Columbia tittle that
is actually connected to insurance so he said that I needed to produce a tittle, which for us in BC does simply does not exist like in the states where it is separate.Regardless to the fact that I have already entered CR 2 weeks ago and was in possession of all my docs from CR, insurance still valid for another 2 weeks, and my entry docs, he just simply did not want to do it and told me to go to Paso Canoas, plain and simple.....
After talking to him for over 2hrs, I re-entered Panama to their biggest surprise and the guy from Aduana in Panama couldn't believe it, so for those familiar with this border, he said "come with me, I'll help you"
So we walked the bridge together back to Panama and he tried to explain on my behalf the same arguments but now the CR aduana has his ego challenged so he said again " NO he's not coming in on this side" so I turned around to go back to Paso Canoas 8 hrs drive away.....:scooter:
I'll keep you posted to my attempt at crossing today in the south.

Find out when that border guard is not on duty and try again..?

If there another crossing you can use instead?

+1 0n brclarkes suggestion .
The CR aduana guy was being a totally misinformed dork.
With all the computer links they have now there is no excuse for him dnying you entry. On top of that your previous admittance to CR should have sealed it for you.
If the border at Sixaola is open all day the workers must change off at som time so find out when his shift changes and try again.
Do the return to the south coast crossing only as a last desperate resort.

Costa rica border

I was intending of returning the day after, but before things went sideways I did ask him if somebody else would help and his answer was "come back tomorrow after 1pm when my boss arrives" but he also said that he was going to be there all day, so when the very helpful aduana officer from Panama took pity on me, he then decided to cross the bridge and make reason of him, but by the time we entered the CR aduana, my not so frendly officer was no longer working alone, he then called in his female partner which took a good look at the situation and had a private conversation with him and she came back to the counter with him and said to us that we were not providing a tittle but a insurance, and then got all flustered by the fact that I showed up with the other agent from the Panama.
Regarding, a exchange of cash to give in, I did pop the question indirectly, without saying the word MONEY, but right of way he said that there was no arrangement possible, closing the door of bribing.....
I ended up driving back to Boquete after that and went through Paso Canoas this morning and out of the 3 officers looking at my papers none of them ask me to provide anything since I already had my seguro in place and TVIP also.
Moral of the story. I was unlucky this time around that's all...

End of story

BC Insurance and Registration

I have heard of a few people now who have had similar problems with government officials. I am thinking I will make a good duplicate of just the registration portion of the BC document to hand to officials to avoid confusion.

Not sure what happened in this case. CR is one of the most difficult places re. entry as they have complicated regulations & restrictions.
I never had a problem with UK papers which are the same as Canada with no title.

If you leave & plan to re-enter always SUSPEND your permit.

I always tell people to suspend incase they have a problem & are forced to return unexpectedly

Tell them if you plan to return through a different border crossing.

You can have 90 days in CR with your vehicle after which you have to leave for 90 days, however if you CANCEL the permit after a few days you can still not return for 90 days.
If you do not return within 90 days the permit is cancelled automatically.

The 90 day period can be in one block OR 90 days within a period of 9 months, ie. you can leave & return various times by suspending the permit, after the 9 months you cannot enter for 90 days again.

All times are GMT +1. The time now is 15:11.
