Shipping bikes Panama City Caracas

This shipping info is for all you folks heading to Caracas in the near future. I just airfreighted my bike a month ago from Panama.

Three companies in Panama that I spoke with are now shipping through DHL to Caracas. I couldn't find any companies shipping directly.

You have to go to the cargo airport 20 minutes past the international airport. Go to the far right buildings where DHL is and look for Panalpina office. They quoted me a price of $560.00 US, but I had the measurements wrong. It turned out to be over 800$! yikes

You may have better luck. DHL doesn´t take motos directly so you have to go through one of the shipping companies. Panalpina, a german company, didn't crate the bike so that saved a bunch of money and the bike was fine when it finally came out the Venezuelan side.

Luis Montalvo is the guy to contact at Panalpina at the cargo airport in panama. luis.montalvo (@panalpina.com) Panalpina, S.A., Exp Airport
Phone: +507 238-4177 FAX: +507 238-4452
Direct: +507 238-4392- Mobile: 614-9874

If you do go with them, tell them Susan said hi and all is well. You'll have to tell them in spanish as they don't speak any english.

My advice is to tell them that you don't need a guia (guide) on the venezuelan side and use this guy Alfredo Curiel alfredocuriel (@curielgroup.com)0416 621 9762 in La Guaria, Venezuela. He's great and he speaks good english. He helped me make my way through the national guard and maybe I'll get licence plates before the year 2007. Things are really pretty slow here. Of course, if you are just bringing the bike in for a couple of months you won't have the same hassels nor will it take as long to get your bikes out....but it is still a complicated process and Alfredo is a great guy.
Ok

Buena Suerte!
Susan

Thanks for the info Susan - please post it in the "Shipments by Travellers" section - link on LEFT of the HUBB - then it's easily available for all to find.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
