Cuba is it possible?

I had this idea the other day that it would be grand to tour Cuba. A few problems exist, the biggest being the US still has an embargo in place so I have found no way to ship bike from US to Cuba. New idea: fly bike from Canada, has anyone done this.
Other question I have is what would it take to get a Visa for US citizen.
So has anyone had the same crazy idea and came up with a way to make it work. Also are there other crazy people out there that might want to join me if a way could be found to get us and bikes there, and back. Looking at January '14 but that is flexible.

Just book a tour with the outfit that rents BMWs and Harleys.
Google is your amigo.

Google "Stahlratte."

I'll write up a quick nuts-and-bolts report one day soon.

MikeMike going with MotoDiscovery is an option that I am considering but if I can find a way to get my own bike there I could stay a month and I'm cheap.

Markharf This looks like an exultant way to do it but then it would need to wait till I retired and could take the time. Looks like a great way if I have to put Cuba back in the bucket (list) for a few years.

Has anyone been able to fly a bike from Canada to Cuba in the last few years.

RTWPaul is there as we speak

He rode down from the States to Guatemala, where I met him, then to Panama, got on the "Stahlratte." on Dec 8 with his Yamaha Teneré 600 and is going to be there until March. Going to take a boat into Yucatan then and back to the States.

Look him up on ADVrider.

Ellen and I are flying over in the next few days, just deciding our duration.

We will be using public transport and leaving the bike in Mexico.

I believe RTW Paul bailed on the Cuba trip. At least, I can state with authority that he wasn't on the Stahlratte when it arrived in Cuba several weeks ago. Nor was his bike among the three we offloaded.

Andi, I wasn't intending snark: it's just that the questions you were asking (hostels/hotels, currency, etc.) are easily researched, but complicated enough that I'm not willing to go to the trouble to explain. You've probably already seen that if you've started reading up.

We have done some research but it all turns up pretty vague answers hence we thought we would put it out there, no point in reinventing the wheel IMO.

Anyway, we are going to go and wing it, bus between towns/place and hire a scoota here and there to get around on.

No plans no worries, just got to decide how long to stay there, the biggest determining factor is Stahlratte not sailing from Pan to Cart till 14 June which is another 1.5 months past when we wanted to got so that sets us back again .. can't bloody win sometimes..
