Car Ferry to Cozumel
In case you are planning to take your bike to Cozumel, don't go to Puerto Morelos - there ain't no ferry any longer. There's a ferry departing from Calica (1.3km south of Xcaret / 6 km south of Playa del Carmen): Turn eastwards towards the coast at Calica Casita No. 3. When turning around AT THE BRIDGE, BE VERY CAREFUL, THE PAVEMENT IS EXTREMELY SLIPPERY IN THE CURVES :-(. The ferry departs from Calica at 4 a.m., 8 a.m., 1:30 pm, 6 p.m. Sundays: 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Motorcycle costs 169 pesos. Be there an hour before departure. The boat looks like what in German you call a "Seelenverkaeufer" ("soul-seller"), i.e. a death-trap - but the trip is all right. Website: www.transcaribe.com.mx
Best regards Winfried BTW: Staying in Cozumel seems to be a lot cheaper than Playa del Carmen [This message has been edited by winne (edited 21 March 2006).]
