California to Costa Rica Spring '08

I'm looking for riding partners for this trip next year. This is attempt #2 as last year, there were just two of us and my buddy's bike blew up halfway into Mexico, effectively ending the journey. The big rub is that I will be leaving my bike there so ideally there would be 3 or 4 people max, enabling the others to ride back together. Plan on 10 -14 days to get there....not an extensive sightseeing trip, but not a rush either. Traveling down the Pacific coast of Mexico. Experienced rider with decent Spanish. Please don't bother to reply unless you are quite serious about going. Last year, I dealt with a lot of eager beavers who were "definite", but chickened out as the time drew near.

another try sounds great

Dear Dave,

are you sure you want to do this after pushing your friend of the bike so he had to give up. Then you scared all the others interested so they chickened out ? :nono: You should be a bid more careful with your fellow riders !!! I'm surprised to see that you are trying it again. :eek3: Anyway, as I like challenges, I was happy to see your post and might be willing to join. (if you like) I have to tell you upfront that you will have a though time to push me of the bike. By the way, I live in CR and my spanish is better then your german. Spring 08 ? when do you think you will start pushing.
I have a bike here in CR, but would like to buy a second bike like a Honda XR650L and drive it down as a back up or in case a friend comes to visit. Do you still want to ride on a KLR ? :mchappy:

Oh no, it wasn't me that was pushing! Bike troubles (Honda XR650 BTW) were probably due to a misaligned rear sprocket. Fixing time in Los Mochis was 2 -3 weeks and we didn't have that kind of time. I'm sure your Spanish is good and I speak not a word of German. Would like to leave probably in March, but could be flexible a few weeks earlier or later depending. KLR ain't pretty, but does everything "pretty good" and is (mostly) reliable.

Costa Rica

Dear Dave,

I am in California as well. I have been trying to move to Costa Rica but can't sell my house. Anyway, I'd like to discuss your plans. If you would like to email me (tprata56@sbcglobal.net) that would be great, we could exchange telephone numbers.

By the way, I know paradisecowboy, we have ridden together in Costa Rica.
I know "paradisecowboy" sounds... you know, but the guy is straight!

Dear Dave,

thanks for your reply to my email. The KLR is a great bike no doubt and the design is quite nice. Funny to hear that your friend had the same bike I like to buy and the one who made you give up last time.

Anyway, maybe Tom has some luck so we 3 can ride south. Lets keep in touch. I'm not sure if I'm able to do it but looking forward to make it happen.
paradisecowboy !! sounds what ? straight !!! :oops2:
Uff.... thanks for telling me, now I know why I get all these funny emails.....:rolleyes2:
