buying in guatamala

Hi
Arriving in Guatamala in November, taking a month's Spanish lessons then will hit the road for two months bike tour of central America.
I wish to buy a bike up to 250cc legally and then sell it at the end of the trip. At 64, sense and insurance means I have to mainly stick to tarmac and after doing Europe, Morocco and Turkey on a v strom 650 I would like to try a trip on a smaller bike prior to a south american circuit in late 2014.

Any thoughts advice on bikes, their purchase appreciated

Regards

Peter

Heya Peter

Fear not there are bikes everywhere.

There is a Craigslist here so you can gauge what bikes go for guatemala motorcycles/scooters - all classifieds " " - craigslist

There are the japas here as well as chinese, beware some Honda labelled bikes are made in china and don't have oil filters or oil coolers, to good things to keep in mind.

Maybe you should consider buying a new bike and sell it after your trip; that would assure you a trouble free 2 month riding down here.
Used local bikes are pretty abused most of the time .
Small bikes down here are not toys that people look after, but they are means of transportation for people without enough money to buy a used car . Accordingly is the maintenance of the bikes.
But there are always exceptions:innocent:
