border crossings chiapas (Mexico) into El Petel (Guatemala)

Does anybody have some experience with the border crossings from the state of chiapas in Mexico into Guatemala. For example the crossing at Frontera Corozal or Bethel?

I can only find info on busses that take you to the border from where you can take a boat to the other side of the river and get on a bus again.
We were wondering if you could get your bike on one of these boats and how expensive this would be, and also if one could take care of all the required paperwork at these relatively small bordercrossings, and last but not least we were wondering about the condition of these roads...

So we have a lot of questions... http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hope some of you could help us out!
cheers!

Hallo Ferry and Elisa!

I dit that bordercrossing 2 years ago, but i went from Guatemala to Mexico via Bethel. The road in Guatemala is full with big holes, but no problem. In Mexico the road up to Palenque is paved. The rivercrossing is easy, if you take the boat from the Mexican side just across the river it will be cheaper but you will need help from the locals to get up the steep hill to the road. I payed 35,- Pesos (Mexican) for my African Twin and me. If you take the short rivercrossing you drive down the road about 5 or 7km, than you hit the other road, take a right back to the river and get your immigration done in Guatemala. Don't worry about the boats, they are quiet big and they will help you to lift the bike inside!

Have fun, Albert!

Hi Albert!
thanx a lot for your reply! A shame we dinĀ“t read it on time...
a mexican touroperator who organizes these tours from palenque to tikal told us that there were no big boats to take us across.. so we decided to take another border (in Chiapas) and drive across the country, which also was a beautiful ride...

cheers!
Ferry
