We are getting ready to head out again. Just a couple of questions. Do they handle the customs (importation of the motorcycle) and imigration at the same place on the Mexican side? I couldn't find the town that you identified. If you are aware, what condition is Highway 17, South out of Douglas in Mexico to Hermosillo? Thank you.

Just chiming in with my 2 centavos , Yes the border tramites can all be done in the Agua Prieta border terminal ( leaving Douglas AZ)
Holly obviously took Mex 2 east then at Janos CHIH turned south on Mex 10 to Nuevo Casas Grandes, well marked on all maps , and then on to points south, either Buenaventura and Copper Canyon country or to Chihuahua city etc etc. There used to be a customs check on Mex 2 in the mountains east of Agua Prieta long ago where documents could be issued , but it is closed
Mex 17 south out of Agua Prieta is an excellent paved highway through some high country valley lands, ranches , field crops , pecans , interesting towns. Then it bends to SW at Moctezuma and joins the Rio Sonora valley system and descends to warmer more and more desert-like country and to Hermosillo where you can get on Mex 15,north or south or carry on west to visit the Sea of Cortez coast at Bahia Kino.
If the CC is your aim then from Moctezuma you could take some gravel backroads to Sahuaripa and then to Mex 16 at about Santa Rosa an d San Nicolas and Mex 16 east into the real mountains.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
