Post Border crossing Mexico/Guatemala @El Ceibo

We traveled from Mexico to Belize and had not enought time to ride the 850 km through Guatemala back to Mexico, so we looed for the shortcut.
We could not find much info about this border crossing so I tought I share this info here maybe someone needs it
We took the roar from Flores to La Liberdad and behind the second Pemex turned right. The road then is very good tare road and quite nice.
We did not stop very often but there was not much traffic al all.
There is also a sing at the turn off to the border and although taht road is good taremac.
The bordercrossing was easy on Guatema site there are container for immigration and customs, alle frindly and no payments required.
The mexican side looks like a hugh border post, they had expected more people ther, so people there have time for you and things might take a bit longer. But all was straight forward, we got a new 180 days tourist card and had to open our luggage because they checked if we carried food.
Through customs the have soem electronic sensors that give alarm and only those get cecked, but I'm not sure what the sensor is supposed to look for.
Hope this helps
Meike

Meike , good to read that you found the El Ceibo border by yourself and it was easy to pass.i have used it several times since it opened around 2007
If folks do a bit of a search on the HU and ADV sites I'm sure the information about this border crossing can be found from several years ago to recent reports And if they check www. borderhelper.com and click on the location it also brings results.
Even fairly new roadmaps still ignore the existence of this crossing and the fact that it has a perfectly great paved road connecting MEX 203 from Tenosique into the GUATEMALAN and Central American road network
.There really aren't any " sensors" for your luggage contents , it is simply a random light which picks out the odd vehicle for a bit of a look -over , just like at every other MEXICAN border crossing .

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
