Best route in Baja
 

Hi guys!

The plan is to cross Baja to La Ventana, stay/kitesurf there for some time and then take a ferry to the mainland Mexico in the end of Nov. Any advice what can be the most interesting route from adventure, scenery, experience standpoint? Noteworthy places to visit? :helpsmilie::scooter:

What type of bike?
I only do asphalt and easy gravel roads in Baja . So, for asphalt it limits you to the main highways Mex 1 .Mex 19 Mex 5 and Mex 3 and the road east to the coast at Bahia de los Angeles and a small assortment of short roads spurs off Mex 1, around the towns and fanning out from La Paz.
Chug along any or all of these roads and take in the scenery, stop at whatever interests you:scooter:Plenty to see and enjoy

Vetter: We just finished the trip you speak about. We did all Baja to La Ventana, Kitesurfed a few days and are now on mainland headed south. This might be late, but Hwy1 is beautiful and I don't think you can go wrong. Are you carrying kite gear? I thought about it, but just brought harnesses hoping to rent gear along the way.

I'm in La Ventana now and have been here for a week, you must have seen me - black 1200gs.
As to my journey in Baja I teamed up with a buddy I met at Mike's sky ranch and we travelled together for a couple of days. We took Baja 1000 road through Puertecitos, Bahia de Los Angeles to El Arco. At some point slept a night under the stars in a tiny fishing village in San Rafael. Baja is amazing and I'm really enjoying the trip :scooter: jeiger

Didn't have the kite gear and plan to buy it here in LV.

I plan to cross to mainland and continue South as well, first to Mexico City and then to Mesoamerica, celebrate "the end of the days" :) We can meet up and have a couple of beers at some point :)

What route did you take to get to Sky Ranch. Did you go down Route 1 or the San Felipe Road Route 5.
I am trying to find how the road is South of Peurtecitos to join back to Route 1 ?
I also have a 06" R1200GS and it doesn't like deep sand when loaded or maybe it is me,am an older rider. Have rode to La Paz before but always on Route 1. I want to try Route 5.

South of Puertocitos is now paved to the checkpoint then dirt through Gonzaga to Coco's Corner and out to Chapala. It is experiencing more heavy traffic by semi-trucks. The road still has some soft spots and some hard ones but is mostly graded and getting ready for pavement. Your GS should not have a problem but you should watch for traffic. When fully paved, this will become a busy corridor. My buddy rode his 990 Adv 2 up with a couple of 650's just last month. Report is from him and his photos.
