Baja mexico - roadconditions
 

hello all,

i'd like to have up2date info about roadconditions between Puertositos - Punta Bufeo - Chapala junction back to Hwy 1.

Anyone?

Yesterday i crossed Baja from San Vinciente to Valle de la Trinidad and that one is "doable", avg. speed 35 km/h. Lots of rocks and bumps, last 10km washbords...

Riding to Cabo San Lucas soon
 

I am headed to Cabo San Lucas this month, looking for somebody that wants to ride along or info about riding the Baja. With the recent hurricane, would I be better off to ride down through the center of Mexcio and cross on the ferry?

Hi Sander,
we did the road about five weeks ago- was a real challange for us. Toke us 2 days from San Felipe south. Beside roadconditions wereally were fighting with the temperature - about 50 Celsius.... Make sure you got enough water with you and don't expect to find anything on about 100km south of Puertecitos... We slept at the beach...
All in all - it's defenetly "doable" , just prepare welland enjoy :-)

Conditions have drastically changed the last few days with Hurricane Jimena stalled over the Sea of Corte for a while and dropping loads of rain on the mainland around Guaymas and Santa Rosalia in Baja.Expect washed out dirt roads, but the Transpeninsular should be brought back to rideable condition fairly quickly.

I came from Bahia De Los Angeles to San Diego about six weeks ago and a nice paved road was under construction south of Puertecitos. I don't know how far dowm is completed by now, but the worst part is from Puertecitos to Gonzaga Bay wich is a strech of about thirty-five miles. South of that the road is much better. If don't have any experience on dirt roads I would not advise to take this route but if you have some or little experience you should be ok. Just to let you know you are not going to be the only traveler on that road, contrary to the concept that most people have. You will find Mexicans and many Americans living along the road in nice houses next to the beach. Baja is not the Sahara so you don't have to take gallons of water and pounds of food. Just enough for the day in hot climate. Don't worry too much about the road or the food and you'll have a better experience.
