Renewing TVIP in Nicaragua?

I am currently in Leon, Nicaragua and crossed over from Honduras at Los Manos on the 15th of January. I was only able to get a 30 day permit for some reason, but I plan on staying in Nicaragua for about 2 more months. My TVIP expires on the 14th of February. Is my only option to go to the closest aduana (Managua, about 2 hours away) and renew there on the day of? And will I need to repeat this process every month thereafter that I want to stay?
I should also mention that when I asked for a stamp in my passport on the Nicaraguan side, I was told that my stamp from Guatemala (on January 3rd) was what was required (C-4 Im thinking) and would be good for three months from then.
Thanks in advance for any advice, Ben

Thanks for the reply. Im going to take a bus to Managua tomorrow. I have heard of somebody being made to cross the border for 72 hours, but hopefully I won't have any problems and can just pay a few bucks for an extension.

Went to the aduana in Managua today. Was fast, but cost 1 buck a day for 30 days max at a time, so $30. I have to come back after 24 hours to get the actual extension paper, although I did get a receipt.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
